Westlake wins pivotal game over Skyridge The Thunder came out of halftime with a three-point lead and went on a 13-2 run in the third period to run away with a 49-42 home win over the Falcons. Westlake was led by Susan Fano’s 14 points and four other players added at least six points. The win pushes the Thunder to 5-3 while Skyridge drops to 6-2 in a chaotic Region 4 that will come down to the wire. “This was a physical game. I give my girls a lot of credit for hanging in there and playing hard. Every game is a playoff game in Region 4,” said Westlake coach Michael O’Connor. Corner Canyon earns crucial upset over Pleasant Grove. The Chargers jumped out to a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and never relinquished it en route to a 47-39 victory on Pleasant Grove’s home court. Corner Canyon was led by freshman Ellie Mortensen who finished with a 12-point and 13-rebound double-double. Hannah Shinall had 15 points and Baylee Bodily added 10 as well. When asked about the victory, coach Gianni Ellefsen simply commented “Best birthday present ever.” Lone Peak keep pace in Region 4 with win over American Fork The Knights came out on fire in each half, outscoring American Fork by a combined 33-10 in the first and third quarters. The game would end 43-30 after an AF fourth quarter run. Kailey Woolston had 15 points and Makeili Ika added 11 points as both girls knocked down a triple for the winning team. Lone Peak picked up their 6th win in region play, putting them in a tie with Skyridge while Westlake and Pleasant Grove are just a game back. The season wraps up with just two more games next week. On Tuesday the Knights will host Corner Canyon while Skyridge visits Pleasant Grove and Westlake visits American Fork. Then on Friday Lone Peak heads to Skyridge in what could be the region championship game while Pleasant Grove wraps up their season in Westlake. These games will determine a lot both in region and RPI rankings and all four teams have a lot on the line. Viewmont edged out Bountiful in overtime battle. Kaylee Smith knocked down five 3-pointers on her way to 17 points as Viewmont beat Bountiful 57-49 in an overtime thriller. Each team won a period by two points while the first and third periods finished tied, leading to an extra period for the Vikings to run away with the win. Emma Mulitalo added 14 points and three other players scored at least seven in the victory. The win should Viewmont up the RPI rankings as they will likely pass Bountiful with the victory. Both teams are well positioned to survive for the first few rounds of the state tournament. Springville picks up road win over Salem Hills Springville earned their 12th straight region win dating back to last year with a blitzing 12-2 third quarter run after being tied at the half. With the win the Red Devils find themselves up two games with three to go on their quest for their second straight region championship. Addisyn Johnson led the way with 13 points while Kira Muir’s 15 points led the SkyHawks in the loss. Springville wraps up their season with games in Park City and then at home against the visiting Golden Eagles from Maple Mountain. Next Up In Sports
