UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma surprises team, wears No. 33 jersey to practice

UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma isn’t feeling the pressure of being No. 1.
If he is, he certainly isn’t showing it.
On the same day his Huskies returned to the top spot in the AP poll, the Hall of Famer switched up his attire for practice. Auriemma surprised his players Monday by sporting a blue No. 33 practice jersey, white headband and armband, and gray basketball shorts.
Katie Lou Samuelson, the program’s fifth all-time leading scorer, is the last Husky to wear that number.
Sophomore Anna Makurat shared the image in an Instagram story, along with a caption: “@katielou is that your jersey?”

UConn, 16-1 and back atop the polls for the ninth straight season, will next be in action Wednesday against St. John’s.
No word on if No. 33 will be available.
